About My Parents Are Aging
Sometime in your thirties or forties, the phone starts ringing in the other direction. The person who taught you to ride a bike now needs help resetting the TV input, and then the questions get bigger. This site is the resource we wished existed when that started happening to us.
Who this is for
Adult children: the ones who live nearby and the ones who don't, the oldest child who inherited the role by default and the youngest who got handed the phone bill. If you've ever said "why doesn't anyone explain this to me," this site is for you. It's also written so that, where practical, the person you're helping can read it themselves: large type, plain language, no condescension.
What we believe
- Practical beats alarming. Fear sells, but it doesn't help. We tell you what to do, not just what to worry about.
- Respect is non-negotiable. Humor is welcome; humiliating an older person is not. The parent's dignity is part of the solution, not an obstacle to it.
- Evidence over vibes. Safety content is sourced from government agencies and manufacturers. Recommendations are dated. Mistakes are corrected publicly.
- Honesty about limits. We're not doctors, lawyers, or financial planners. When a situation needs one, we say so: clearly and early.
How the site is built
Everything here is plain web pages. Today that means no accounts, no logins, and no ads. The tools run in your browser and store nothing about you unless you count a few anonymous counters in your own browser's storage, which you can view and delete at any time. For anonymous, aggregate page statistics the site uses Google Analytics 4 in its privacy-safe mode: IP anonymization on, advertising features off, and ad storage, ad user data, and ad personalization denied sitewide. It never sees anything you paste into a tool, and you can turn it off in one click (see Privacy). If we ever add accounts, ads, or new analytics, the privacy policy will say so plainly before it happens.
How we make money
Today we earn a small commission from Amazon Associates links on a few What to Buy guides, and nothing else: no sponsored placements, no ads, no paid reviews. Every page with a commission link says so in plain language near the links, and the recommendation never changes because of them. Where content comes from
Every guide is checked before it's published. Safety and scam topics must cite government and manufacturer sources; anything touching medical, legal, or financial decisions is clearly labeled as general guidance, not individualized advice.
